To collect Spectrobes, players use the Nintendo DS stylus and touch screen to excavate the creatures as fossils, awaken them using the DS microphone, and evolve them into more powerful Spectrobes. Players must collect mysterious fossilized creatures known as Spectrobes in order to complete missions and defeat enemies. Spectrobes Collector's Edition allows players to take on the role of planetary patrol officer Rallen. Spectrobes, released in March 2007, was the first original intellectual property from Disney Interactive Studios and has since shipped more than 800,000 units worldwide.
The special edition also includes a Mini Guide from Brady Games which includes statistics on all of the Spectrobes in the game.
